What is Rapid Response?

Rapid Response is an early intervention service that assists both employers and employees affected by layoffs or plant closures. It provides access to user-friendly resources and information to help transition affected workers into re-employment. When a company has to lay off employees it is difficult for both the employer and affected workers. The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions provides Rapid Response assistance statewide to help employees gain access to all federal and state programs that have resources available to help them.

How does Rapid Response work?

The first step, usually begins when a WARN notice is issued to the State. A meeting is scheduled with the employer to discuss resources available to assist both the employer and the employee.
The next step is the development of a plan of action to deliver needed services. This step is assisted through the work of Rapid Response Team.

What is the Rapid Response Team?

The Rapid Response Team is comprised of representatives from the local area and partner agencies. Included in the team are:

  • Unemployment Insurance
  • New Mexico Workforce Connection
  • WIA Career Centers
  • Trade Adjustment Assistance (where applicable)
  • Department of Human Services
  • Children, Youth and Families
  • Veterans Representatives
  • What does the Rapid Response Team Do?
  • The Rapid Response Team will hold meetings on-site at an employers locations and provide information on all of the resources that the partners have available to assist the employee through the transition of being unemployed to employed.

What resources are available to help workers affected by lay off?

The Rapid Response partners provide information on:

  • Education and training opportunities
  • Resume writing assistance
  • Interviewing skills
  • Career assessment
  • Job Search/Placement Assistance
  • Access to Internet for job search and posting resumes
  • Resource rooms for computer, fax, and copies
  • Children and family Health Insurance
  • Child Care Assistance
  • Human Service Programs such as Food Stamps, Energy Assistance, and Cash Assistance
  • Unemployment Insurance
  • NAFTA/Trade Adjustment Assistance
